Frequently Asked Questions

How many sessions do we need to do together?

It depends! For some folks, a single consultation to troubleshoot or ask a specific question is all that is needed. For some cases we will have a long term relationship, working together regularly for years. Think of it like a fitness coach or therapist, do you have a short term goal you are working on, just need help finessing a certain technique, or do you want long term support and coaching for major changes? Most of my clients work with me weekly for a few months.

Why do you contract with Dog Adventures NW?

Because they are the best! Dog Adventures NW is a local + woman owned company that has business practices I align with. They support me as a trainer so I can spend more time with dogs and less time doing administrative work.

Where is the Intake Consultation?

I only travel to SW Portland with some exceptions. My preference for the Intake Consultation is to do it virtually. If you prefer in person then we can meet at a coffee shop or park.

When booking my Intake Consultation should I book follow up sessions at the same time?

Yes, to avoid having to wait 4-6 weeks after your Intake Consultation, book weekly follow up training sessions at the same time. You can always cancel these sessions within the cancellation period.

Where do training sessions take place?

In a public park, a large empty parking lot, your home near SW Portland, virtually, or somewhere else that allows dogs and supports your training goals.

When will my dog be fully trained?

Never! Training is an ongoing lifelong process that needs some level of maintenance for the life of your dog. We may hit your goals in 6 weeks, a year, or adjust your goals to align with your dog, your skill set, and your lifestyle’s capabilities and limitations.

What methods do you use?

I use progressive reward based methods including shaping, capturing, luring, classical conditioning, pattern games, enrichment, play, decompression, and management. I regularly take classes, attend seminars, consume podcasts, and train my own dogs to stay up to date on modern science based training.

Do you have availability outside of what’s open on your calendly link?

Typically, no, but last minute openings sometimes happen.
